A Colorful Night in Sydney Harbour – Photo Blog Entry

Posted on: 06.21.10

So, I finally snapped out of my non-photo taking slump last weekend when a friend and I headed near the city to take some night shots during the “Vivid” Festival in The Rocks (in Sydney.)

Here’s a few of my favorites!  I’ll also start posting the shutter speed, aperture, ISO so you know how I got the shot.  I’ll also link each picture up to the full resolution gallery.  Enjoy!

Circulary Quay Colorful Night View - 1 | f8, 8" exposure, ISO 800

Another Angle of Circular Quay | f6.3, 5" exposure, ISO 1000

Water Taxi | Shot handheld, f2.8, 1/20, ISO 1000

White Opera House View | f3.2, .6" exposure, ISO 1600

Colorful Panoramic - Sydney Harbour | f11, 20" exposure, ISO250

A Golden Opera House | f6.3, 5" exposure, ISO1000

*Favorite* - Red Opera House, Train Passing | f2.8, ISO1600, 1/2" exposure

Stunning Sydney Night Scene | f11, 10" exposure, ISO 400

Crop of the above image - crazy detail!

Glowing Opera House | f5.6, 15" exposure, ISO 320

Purple Opera House | f11, 20" exposure, ISO 250

AND…the money shot of the night:

THE MONEY SHOT! Harbour Bridge | f16, 20" exposure, ISO 200 (the winning combination)

As soon as the shutter fired for this one I knew it was going to be epic.  All the settings came together for what is in my eyes one of the best shots I’ve taken, ever.  The headlights add to the lines and I can only blame that on a little luck – but it’s something that would never have happened if I didn’t venture out into the cold Sydney night and make the effort, something I definitely haven’t been doing enough of lately!

Cheers,
Dave
